Max ‘Pain’ Griffin TAKES BACK HIS FORMER TITLE!

At WFC 5, on May 3, the West Coast Fighting Championships (WFC) hosted their contest for both the International Sport Combat Federation (ISCF) and the WFC welterweight belts. After some strong words between Kito Andrews, the title defender, and Max Griffin, the two finally faced off for both belts with Griffin winning the unanimous decision on all judges score cards. In the first round, Andrews (now 10-3) showed his confidence and exhibited his power, landing counters as Griffin came forward. Andrews controlled the ground game at times in the second round, with Griffin using his intense cardio conditioning to keep his movement at a high pace when possible.

Andrews was unable to mount a strong offensive in the third round onward, most likely in part due to visible fatigue he exhibited. Griffin seemed to see that Andrews’ hands were low and his breath was deep in the second half of the fight, picking up his attack to another level of pace when possible. Though Griffin (now 6-1) stayed much more active and worked hard in the clinch to land damaging shots, Andrews continued to land occasional powerful counters, which prevented Griffin from diving in recklessly for the finish.

“I feel good (about the victory). My eye’s (messed) up but I feel good,” Griffin said to SR (www.srmma.com) about his victory post-fight.

Neither fighter left the cage unscathed, Griffin’s combination assaults and Andrews’ well-timed counters caused wobbly legs on both sides, making a finish from either fighter seem imminent on many occasions. With a decisive unanimous decision victory, and the ISCF and WCF welterweight belts to his name, Griffin had only a few short words to put an end to the war of words at the press conference.

Marinoble’s Martial Art and Kickboxing in Roseville will be hosting an all day tournament on December 8, 2012.

We are inviting sport fighters and marital artists from our school, as well as others, to come and compete in the following divisions: Grappling, Weapons, Light Contact Kickboxing, Light Contact MMA, Kata, Weapons Sparring, and Point Sparring. We will be offering prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd placements in each division.
